£2.4m funding boost for North East

£2.4m funding boost for North East

Creative companies in the North East stand to benefit from a £2.4m funding boost next year. Regional development agency One North East and Northern Film and Media have appointed venture capital firm NorthStar to allocate the The North East Creative Fund.

From January, the fund will invest in film, TV, interactive media, games and music-based ventures over the next two years, with around 18 companies likely to gain backing. It is in addition to the £125m Joint European Resources for Micro to Medium Enterprises (JEREMIE) fund set to be launched in the North East next year.

NorthStar chief executive Marion Bernard expects the funding to drive further growth in the creative industries in the region. "The creative sector is already punching above its weight in the region and it's one of the priorities of the Regional Economic Strategy. We look forward to meeting entrepreneurs and commercial partners in this sector space."
