cmypitch Live - The winners
London and Dublin last week. 70-plus investors, 14 companies pitching, €2.72m sought in Ireland. £2.5m sought in London. cmypitch Live bore witness to some excellent early stage businesses seeking finance.
From an expanding salad bar chain to an invention to reduce heating bills. And from eco-friendly scooters to an ambitious digital publishing proposition. There were some strong contenders for the hearts, minds, wallets and purses of the investors in the room.
There was also the small matter of dealing with the inquisition from our esteemed investor panels, tasked with coaxing out the key details and selecting their 'most investible' businesses on the nights. Each company had three minutes to make their case, followed by three minutes of questioning from what we'll call the 'Dragons' for simplicity's sake, and finally three minutes of open questions from the floor.
The winners
In London, at Sun Microsystem's Startup Essentials base, BraveNewTalent.com took the 'most investible' business award. This came after frenzied deliberation by our panel, which featured PROfounders Capital's Sean Seton-Rogers, Banner Corp chairman and angel investor Rod Banner, Octopus Ventures' Alliot Cole, Flutter.com founder and head of a £50m Rothschild family-backed fund Tim Levene, and ex-head of Associated Northcliffe Digital Andy Hart, who recently created £10m intellectual property-focused fund Kratos IP. iCreate-Shoes.com was second with Eclector.com third, although the quality of the ventures pitched was high.

In Dublin, hosted by Deloitte, the standard was equally strong. Green Diamond Technologies, a company aiming to use its software to improve local authorities' waste collection efficiency while saving thousands, took top spot. Online sports team management website Teamer.net secured second and Trinity College Dublin spin-out MIRAVEX, which has developed a skin analysis technology came third, amid impressive competition. Our panel there featured Powerscourt Investment's Sean Melly, Investor First's managing director James Carroll, Dermot Berkery of Delta Capital and highly successful entrepreneurs Eamonn Fallon of Daft.ie and Jacob Fruitfield's Michael Carey.
Investor ready boot camps
cmypitch was also host to in excess of 50 entrepreneurs seeking to get investor ready, with more than 20 turning up at law firm William Fry's Dublin offices for our Irish boot camp, where experts from accountants Deloitte, William Fry, incubator Ortegra, pitch expert Emma Ledden, and web TV specialists Media Concepts sharing their wisdom alongside Emmett Kilduff, CEO of cmypitch.
In London 30-plus entrepreneurs attended our one-day course at the Sun Startup Essentials HQ, where top advisers from accountants Tenon, law firm Fox William, IP specialist law firm Field Fisher Waterhouse, and Ortegra made presentations.
Finally, we'd like to thank our sponsors Bank of Scotland (Ireland), Deloitte, Microsoft BizSpark, William Fry, Sun Microsystems and media partners The Irish Times and Square Mile Magazine.
